Lansdscape with Rainbow and Sheep, early 20th century

This oil painting was made by Clem Lambert. It shows a rural scene, possibly on the South Downs.

Weather report

The sheep may be at the centre of this picture, but there is plenty of meterological action taking place.

Part of a rainbow can be seen on the right, apparently landing on a precise spot on the hill.

There is also a stiff breeze coming from the rear left of the viewer. The tree behind the shepherd and ever blade of grass is pulled back from the wind.

The only object apparently unaffected is the shepherd’s hat.
