Jubilee Bonfire, 1935

This postcard shows a bonfire in Rottingdean.

Burning down the house

Remember, remember, the fifth of November… today is Bonfire Night! We’ve been looking at our collections, and we’re pretty impressed by the height of this Bonfire! It was built for George V’s Silver Jubilee in 1935 on Windmill Hill in Rottingdean.

The caption on our image bank says it’s made from ‘barrels and packing crates’ in the shape of a house, which is only obvious if you look closer.
