Drawing of Brighton, 1824

This pencil drawing was made on 14 July 1824. It shows Brighton seafront looking west.

No straight line

This simple drawing is a reminder that Brighton seafront was still dominated by fishing boats and cliffs. The straight promenade above the beach that so many of us associate with the seaside experience was yet to be built.
